The
Goodman Psychological Services Center is a private, nonprofit community
mental health agency that is affiliated with the Psychology Department
of Carlos Albizu University (CAU). Students of the University who
are working toward the Doctor of Psychology degree provide our services
under the supervision of licensed psychologists. The Center was established
in the early 1980's and since that time, it has provided mental health
services to over 10,000 members of our multicultural community at
an annual cost of approximately $500,000.
Services are routinely
available in English and Spanish and on occasion in other languages
as therapists conversant in those languages are available.Services
are specifically designed to be affordable based on our sliding fee
schedule.
The Goodman
Center is a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral
and Internship Centers (APPIC). The Internship aims to enhance the
training of the intern by granting the intern more autonomy and a
greater level of responsibility than other students in lower levels
of training. Interns engage in psychotherapy, conduct psychodiagnostic
evaluations, attend seminars, didactic training experiences and oversee
special projects. These projects include oversight of court cases,
preparing and monitoring disability claims, university referrals,
coordinating referrals from the Department of Children and Families,
Foster Care and Adoption Services, and Northwest Dade Community Mental
Health Center.Keeping
in mind the mission and philosophy of CAU, the Goodman Center has
been committed to training mental health professionals who are sensitive
and responsive to cultural and ethnic issues, while providing quality
service and training.GOODMAN
