MASTER OF SCIENCE IN TEACHING ENGLISH TO SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (TESOL)
The
Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
(TESOL) with a concentration in Exceptional Student Education is
designed for students who wish to obtain a State of Florida teaching
certification in the area of English to Speakers of Other Languages
(ESOL). The purpose of the program is to prepare culturally sensitive
educators to respond to the unique language needs of children with
limited English proficiency in grades K – 12.
The program consists of 30 credits of coursework. CAU’s unique
program design integrates into the field of language acquisition
and education the overall understanding of student behavior and sensitivity
towards culturally diverse populations. A highlight of the program
is the completion of a Graduate Portfolio that will assess student
knowledge within the context of TESOL education in the following
areas: instructional strategies, language education methodologies,
curriculum development, ESOL educational technology, remediation
of communication disorders and assessment.
